The case of this urn is made of solid quarter sawn white oak, a wood that is known for its distinctive grain pattern and is characteristic of vintage mission-style furniture. The top and inlay bands are African makore (ma-kór-ee). The piece is finished in natural Danish oil with a clear water-based top coat. No colored stains are used. The interior of the case is accessed by removing the brass screws that secure the base.
